They are also experienced with many kinds of finishes for wood surfaces. There is a very small margin for error in this specialty so Finish Carpenters must have skill and experience. The level of skill and experience that Finish Carpenters have means you will pay more for their trade, but you will receive a quality product in return. Some Finish Carpenters also specialize in Mill Cabinetry or cabinet making, while others are door makers or moulding makers and installers. Always look at previous work done by the carpenter, to get an idea of the carpenters skill level and eye for detail. Whenever you hire a contractor get a copy of a writen contract. Make sure the contract includes the project details and any other special considerations. Make sure the payment arrangements are detailed in the contract as well. Usually a down payment is expected to begin work and the balance paid after completion. Sometimes, on larger jobs, progress payments have to be made as different stages of the work are completed. It is also a good idea to find out if the carpenter will make repairs after the project is done. Hiring cheap labor can work for smaller projects but for larger more important ones make sure you hire a licensed and experienced contractor. Check referrences and previous work done by the carpenter. Remember that the added expense of hiring a highly skilled carpenter can save you a lot of disappointment and frustration in the end. |
